there is a glove pattern in Loop-d-Loop Crochet, but I can't remember exactly what it looks like. it's definitely a mesh or filet type pattern, but i think it's denser than the one you show, and i don't know about the diagonal.

in general though, making diagonal mesh shouldn't be that difficult. make a foundation row or two of, say, 20 sc (to see if this works for you).
chain 3, skip 3, tc in next. chain 3, skip 3, tc in next across. chain whatever is needed to turn (sorry, weak on the specifics). turn.
tc in next tc (the "top" of the arch you just made), chain three, tc in the next tc, and so on.

then, just fill in the spots you want opaque with tc, like in regular filet. i think that should work.

in a quick glance at the links below, i saw my mistake (bad memory, bad!). rather than try to explain, i'll just say check out the mesh techniques below!
